Roman Holiday
Roman Holiday (1953)

IMDB rating: 8.10

Plot: Princess Anne embarks on a highly publicized tour of Europian capitals. When she and her royal entourage arrive in Rome, she begins to rebel against her restricted, regimented schedule. One night Anne sneaks out of her room, hops into the back of a delivery truck and escapes her luxurious confinement. However, a sedative she was forced to take earlier starts to take effect, and the princess is soon fast asleep on a public bench. She is found by Joe Bradley, an American newspaper reporter stationed in Rome. He takes her back to his apartment. The next morning Joe dashes off to cover the Princess Anne press conference, unaware that she is sleeping on his couch! Once he realizes his good fortune, Joe promises his editor an exclusive interview with the princess.

What is your alltime favourite romantic movie?
I love movies like Roman Holiday, The Philadelphia Story, and more "modern" movies like Nicholas Sparks’ "Message in a Bottle". I guess I love the last one because I love the outer banks of North Carolina. My favourite states are North Carolina and Tennessee. I also love West Virginia. The song by John Denver, "Almost heaven, West Virginia" really resonates with me. Oh, I love Missouri as well. My favourite author, Mark Twain (Samuel Clemens) was raised there. I’ve travelled through that part of the U.S. and fell in love with it.
Anna, another Nicholas Sparks fan!
Hi Nel,
I love Audrey Hepburn movies too.
Oh, and of course Charlotte Bronte’s Wuthering Heights. I believe it’s generally her favourite book although mine is Jane Eyre.
Curious, Sophia Loren is still a beautiful woman and a VERY passionate actress.

A Walk to Remember :)

Breakfast at Tiffanys, GiGi and My Fair Lady are some great classic romances but I think my favorite classic romance would have to be Wuthering Heights !!

My favorite is: Yesterday,Today and Tomorrow/ Sofia Loren/ Marcelo Mastroani. (60’s)

Titanic. Definetly Titanic. If you haven’t seen it, GO SEE IT NOW! It was the best romantic movie I had ever watched. The chemistry between Leo and Kate was amazing! The actors were so passionate. The ending was so sad. I cry every time. Like literally, every time. I probably watched it over 20 times though. But go watch it.

How can i get left 4 dead to be able to have four controllers playing at once.?
I been playing left 4 dead dor awhile now and i dont have xbx live and the manual says it is a four player game online/offline. ive tried and all i can get is two player to work, so how can i get left 4 dead to be able to have four controllers playing at once.

You can only have a 2 player split screen but you can have 4 player online. Sorry but i guess it would be too many zombies on one screen for the system to handle.

You need to have 2 xboxs linked together both with a copy of the game and two tvs.

Left 4 Dead is on 2 player split screen. you could try the system link feature, in which u link 2 xbox 360 consoles on to differnt TV’s then you could play Co-Op with the 2 systems

Offline you can play co-op 2 players. online up to 8 players or 4 players co-op

Boy problem. Please, help?):?
Okay, so i’ve liked this guy for a while now in my history class now. He’s really quiet, but funny once you get to know him and very cute. We’ll we’re partners on this project that we both have and we decided to meet up at each other’s houses to work on the project. Well, we like to talk and laugh a lot in person and one time i noticed that he followed me while we were still talking when he’d usually go the other way. But when we text he doesn’t really text back and we’re like history buddies when we text. We usually talk about academics only. Well, i gave him some space and when we started to work together, we barely worked on the project and all we did was talk and laugh a lot. The first time, we focused on the project, but kept talking about school stuff and i was fidgeting in my chair and touched his foot by accident. Then the second time we met up, we talked about his life and my life then again, i was fidgeting and our knees touched on accident, but he didn’t seem to react ever when these things happened. Our project is due in a couple days and i’m not sure if i can talk to him like we did before or even hang out like before. What can i do? Do you think he likes me?
Also, i should add that i do feel bad because i told him that i would do the part of the poetry yesterday and i honestly was trying, but i had so much work and didn’t sleep till 3 am. When i asked if he did the poetry part, he didnt even look at me and just said no as he walked away. I feel like crap and feel stupid that i let him down. What can i do?:/

He might like you..
Laraisadork | Jan 27, 2010

from what you’ve said it seems like he defo likes you as a friend and that’s always a good start. if he is shy you might have to be the one to lay it all out, but just now just try and get to know him more and try to break the touch barrier – pretend your really happy about something he did and hug him. it seems your making a big deal out of accidental touching – when you start touching and its not accidental that’s when it becomes a big deal :) best of luck
firefly69 | Jan 27, 2010

Hard to tell, try to loosen up and flirt a little more if you like him. Making eye contact is one of the most important things for me personally. Maybe try giving him hints like: ‘You’re funny’ or ‘I like working together with you’, when the moment is right. : )

I personally like it when a girl makes me feel comfortable when I think I like her, if I think she might like / come to like me I loosen up a bit and flirt a lot easier.

Hope that helps!
Jimmy | Jan 27, 2010

the dude is prolly thinking "her knee touched mine! does that mean she likes me!" y’know, you can casually show you like him by intentionally touching him. like when you’re saying something like secret you put your hand on his arm like you mean to hold his attention. that’ll make him wonder. or when you’re walking together just kind of wrap your arm around his like in the old movies, not all lovey and stuff, just casual. or just walk close enough that you’re touching shoulders to him. check his reactions when you do that kind of stuff. you’ll know how he feels soon enough. if he moves away or tries to squirm out of it, let him go and play it off like, "oh, i didn’t even realize."
Annie | Jan 27, 2010

well he is kind of ashamed i think, don’t get too far let him get his feelings for you out of him or make him do that, otherwise he will remain that way and you both will go nowhere.

And show him that you like him, like caring or do something for him like a favor or tell him something important, a secret, and let him feel special … and if he shows interest or a reaction then he likes you. You’ll know :)

Harlequin fiction? Who reads this rubbish?
Browsing randomly though the BN website and I come across the Harlequin section in the paperback page options. There re thousands and thousands of these books released nearly weekly with the same asinine theme. They apparently have a following if they can support the publications and constant writing and production. Who reads this stuff? They all seem to be the same theme that caters to a specific individual who is looking for that fairy tale. Does anyone on this page read these things?

I mean go to the BN website, hit paperback store and then go to romance and then hit Harlequin. It will bring up a plethora of this stuff.

I mean they even have books (multiple publications of the same theme) catered to the theme of the rich handsome boss marrying the ugly, plain duckling secretary or themes about Christmas marriages or the unexpected baby that turns the man

Martyrs
Martyrs (2008)

IMDB rating: 7.10

Plot: A young woman’s quest for revenge against the people who kidnapped and tormented her as a child leads her and a friend, who is also a victim of child abuse, on a terrifying journey into a living hell of depravity.

Directors: Laugier Pascal

Actors: Toupin Robert,Dolan-Tadros Xavier,Chute Mike,Chute Mike,Pham Jessie,Drama,Horror,

Why do some women get so much enjoyment out of being martyrs?
It’s like it’s a competition to see who can tell the biggest horror story about how awful her man is and "you think that’s terrible, wait until you hear this" and blah blah blah.

Oddly enough, if these women had the option to be with a man who isn’t awful, then they’d whine about how awful it is that he isn’t awful.

Why is that?

Having lived with a martyr for 28 years, I’ve concluded that it relieves them of all guilt and responsibility. You’ll notice that if you catch one at something their first line of defense is always to somehow blame it on you.

Their husband is actually the true martyr for her. He absolves her of all sin, be it cheating or chocolate. And he’s her whipping boy, in that he takes the lashes for her crimes. After all, somebody has to pay and it certainly isn’t going to be her.

So when they get together and do this they’re just sacraficing the lambs to make themselves clean.

Good question. Star for you.

Guytheterrible | Sep 03, 2009

I don’t really think they do this on purpose. probably just happens because their man wont listen to them or be supportive..so they have to vent to someone about it.
Steph | Sep 03, 2009

Anyone who settles for a truly lousy husband or wife shouldn’t complain about it, if they’re willing to tolerate being treated bad then they need to find some respect for themselves instead of complaining about it to friends who can’t fix the problem,

Seth.

its what i call the martyr syndrome…. i have a sister this way she isnt happy until she is miserable. and complaining, and whining. never wants advice on how to rectify the situation tho. i dont put up with it anymore anytime she starts in with a negative about someone i change the subject. eventually she gets the point. i dont know why this happens tho that they like feeling miserable.

Where are you meeting these women and do you have any experience with a real woman?

It’s because they have nothing else in their pathetic lives.

Women are funny creatures. If a man is honest, they don’t want that. Very Sad. I have tried to be a honest man and women always leave me and my cheating freinds have all the decent women.
Betterman | Sep 03, 2009

you know what i think is really gross about that? is the fact that these same women chose these men they talk trash about.

okay – so if you are who you hang with, then the people you attract are a reflection of you – IDIOT!

they make themselves look dumb. listening to that helps me to understand why some men call women chickens!
ah-ight | Sep 03, 2009

some people need attention and they think that is the only way, yes it is dishonest, but they are afraid to be honest. FYI: "Games People Play", by Eric Berne
tinman97030 | Sep 03, 2009

I would argue your assumption that some women are martyrs, but I can’t. I’ve read too many Joan of Arc letters right here on YA. ("You think that’s bad, my ex burned me at the stake!")

I’ve mentioned a few tidbits about previous relationships as a warning to some others who seem headed down that same road. But if I was in a bad relationship now, I’d be too embarrassed to talk about it until I’d remedied the situation. Maybe they’re just venting…?

So I guess I have no answer at all. Now I’m just venting, hahahaha!
Debi | Sep 03, 2009

I’m a wife and I agree with you. All of my married friends (including sister-in-laws), do this and it really irritates me. First of all because I’m friends with the men involved also, not just the women. Plus 2 of the people that are being trashed are my brothers. If they start trying to get me to complain I just tell them how great my marriage is. I can’t complain. Which is the truth. I also don’t believe in airing a couple’s dirty laundry. Problems will become 100 times worse if everyone is putting there 2 cents in and you can’t think straight let alone make a decision that effects your marriage (because every fight counts, don’t say the wrong thing, both parties will remember the wrong that was done). I don’t know why women do that (men do it too though, it’s not just us) but the immaturity needs to stop.
Nicole | Sep 03, 2009

Because they like being unhappy. they are addicted to the ego boost they get from it….this starts early. My m other is like this — so was her mother. I have worked hard to change and break that pattern and develope a more positive attitude of grattitude. :)

I also had to drop a few friends because ALL they did was bitch about their boyfriends…..it gets annoyed — but seriously —NOT ALL WOMEN ARE LIKE THIS. :)

is it only me??? this contains spoilers for the new halloween….?
*Spoiler alert**
believe me there are spoilers here and the film will be wasted if u haven’t seen it, this is your only opportunity to look away, i will not be held responsible for wasting it this is 4 those who have seen it.

everyone is harping on about this new halloween movie but they are completely missing the point and it probably wont be long before rob zombie feels the need to speak out and guide people through the storyline in makatron.

Michael myers does not escape and return to haddonfield to kill his sister, there i said it i feel better, his sister is the only person he feels any connection with and in his own twisted way she is the only one he wants to be with, he kills her adopted parents because they are in the way he kills lynda and ?kills? annie because they are impure he wears the mask because he thinks (again remember he is psychotic) that laurie will know who he is. until she stabs him he makes no attempt to kill her he just wants to show her his handiwork
My question is ‘is it only me’? obviously your failure to see this just strengthens my point about people needing to be spoon-fed information rather than using their brains to work it out. i am asking if anyone else has seen the movie and shares my opinion on the premise rather than following the assumptions of haggard cynical reviewers.
Jeez louise some people can be overly touchy, McLevin if u get where im coming from then i dont consider u one of the haggard ones so rest easy dude there seems to be fewer of us around. btw i also thought that 1408 Sucked. and that is not a question just a pure driven fact.

I’m glad you said that…I got that impression as well, and it’s one of the things that makes "Halloween" so interesting.

However, I would not consider myself a "haggard cynical reviewer." Some of us do get it.

My mum is coming to visit over the weekend. Now, I need some suggestions where we can go/what we can do.
I was going to get tickets to Calendar Girls, but saw its finished. All I planned so far is afternoon tea and and a few pub visits.
I showed her all the touristy London places last time so cant do that again.
Any ideas on ‘mumsy’ things to do apart from afternoon tea and shopping in London?
