is GLAM really Metal?

Filed under: Uncategorized — oscarspence1981 at 7:59 pm on Saturday, October 31, 2009

Maybe I have too much time on my hands. Maybe, in the end what IS or ASN’T Metal is more subjective than people want to admit.

I realize time has changed to a degree what Metal represents, but oftentimes it seems something is derided as Non-Metal, and it usually seems to be because it has become Popular, or it’s one of the more Melodic Genres, like Gothic.

BUt I just want to know… how is THIS Metal?
 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GdDxz2bkf hE

and THIS is not?
 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=truln6VnS 4E
It’s harder, faster, more technical and definitely "Heavier".

OR

THIS……
 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JS-tVp4SK 3o

over THAT…?
 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wdqo9aO0f yo
( Yes, I know Metallica is considered a Metal band, but Load and RelOad are generally considered Alt Rock or Hard Rock albums )
White Snake, White Lion, Slaughter? Metal? Really?

Even a lot of the Prince of Darkness’ early solo Material seems to be Metal in name only……

Goodbye to Romance, Mr Crowley, Steal Away the Night, Believer, Tonight, Little Dolls, Diary of a MAdman, So Tired, Killer of Giants, jus tto name a few off the first 4 albums off the top of my head…. I love Ozzy, love what he did in Sabbath…. but those are Metal How? ( Simple… because he used to be the Singer for the first Metal band… yeah. )

MQ- Name some "Bubble" Metal Bands?
BQ- Why do some people think it’s an insult to say something isn’t Metal… particualrly if it isn’t? Can’t something still be good if it’s Hard/Alt Rock?
( Seems to me like the difference between a Ferrari and a Porshce….. both are kick butt… one jsut happens to be a lot flashier than the other. Not like someone went and compared a Ferrari to a KIA or anyting )

Dunno… I’ve had a long miserable day, and maybe I’m just being grouchy……….

Long and miserable…perfect way to describe my day as well. Hope we both have a better day tomorrow, KP.

I think *all* of this is so subjective…one man’s Hard Rock is another man’s Metal. There are no concrete rules or any science behind the whole genre thing as far as I’m concerned, and it’s wild how quickly and easily opinion is given and passed off as fact.

I remember when a lot of those bands were big and I never really classified them as Metal. But again, that’s my opinion. :)

MQ: Cinderella, maybe? I don’t know.
BQ: That’s a great question! When did Hard Rock become an insult? Maybe it is in certain circles?

Glam is like a spin-off of those bad-ass hair bands
and Metallica is thrash metal, Evanescence is boring, and what the hell is that other thing?
That guy wit the face | May 26, 2009

Glam is the best type of metal. The music is catchy, the singers have talent and the special effects are impressive.
Nick C | May 26, 2009

Sure it is.

Try telling Dee Snider Twisted Sister wasn’t Metal, see what he says about it.

Now as to Your case studies, Warrant is Hair Metal and Hair Metal is Metal, the Guitars, the Volume, the Attitude makes it all Metal. If it was Metal then it’s Metal now. I don’t care if Metal gets so damn b400tal it turns into People blowing up cars with nail guns to the accompaniment of nuclear explosions, it don’t make old the Metal any less Metal.

Whitesnake’s later albums, White Lion, Slaughter, Metal?

Ab so f-ing lutley.

MA: Evanescence

BA: I don’t think it’s an insult, but after 25+ years I get mighty tired of the B4ootal crowd and the Trve Kvlt bunch (Most of whom were sucking on slurpees and watching Capt Kangaroo when I was in Moshpits at metallica shows) trying to tell Me what is and ain’t Metal. It just gets OLD.

Gimme a P! Gimme an E! Gimme an A! Gimme a C! Gimme an H! What’s that spell? AWESOMENESS!!!

Well, you told me to be a cheerleader. :P I guess I took it the wrong way. But yeah like I said I don’t really have anything of any particular value to add to the subject. I’m not really a glam fan.

But I see the point and yeah, genre-placing continues to be a finicky subject to deal with. And saying something is "not metal" as an insult is usually used by those who don’t listen to anything but metal, which I (and I assume you) find to be boring after awhile. Well not necessarily BORING, but not as filling. Like a music pie, but you’re only getting the whipped cream. It’s nice but there could be so much more!

It’s sort of how I disagree with calling Within Temptation gothic rock/metal. I think their very first album and first EP contained elements of it, but that was it. I would definitely class Mother Earth as a metal album – not every song, such as "Never-Ending Story", but as a whole, yes. I would also agree that they’re turning more to rock nowadays than metal, but does that make them bad? Not in my book. ‘course, what do I know, I actually LIKE these so-called girly rock bands. :P

MA: Pretty much every female-fronted metal band from Europe that doesn’t contain a male growler

I love all the Glam Bands but I never considered them metal I always thought of them as Hard Rock.

MQ: I could have a list of 50 but my favorites are Motley Crue and poison

The stench of a robbed grave. When was the last time the Phillies were World Series Champs?

Filed under: Uncategorized — oscarspence1981 at 11:33 pm on Thursday, October 29, 2009

My Gov teacher posed this question and the response he wanted was this past wednesday
but if that’s the response he wanted shouldnt he have used the past perfect or something like when have the phillies won the series?
I’m not a expert but I feel like by the rules of grammar 1980 is the answer to his question…
What do you think?

Then your teacher should say that they are World Series Champs. But 1980 was the last time they were World Series Champs.

How do I make good use of Google Voice?

Filed under: Uncategorized — oscarspence1981 at 12:56 pm on Wednesday, October 28, 2009

It seems pretty useful with all the fancy features, but I can’t really think of any good reason for me to use it. How do I make Google Voice useful? What do you use it for? I only have a cell phone and make occasional calls and texts. Thanks!

Step 1
In your google voice account settings, you have to select the Transcribe Voicemails option. This will allow google voice to record or SMS your voicemails to you. It is under settings in the general account settings. After setting up this option, it will become available.
Step 2
Whenever you receive a voicemail, it will be transcribed to your google voice account. It will also include the audio file of the voicemail so you can listen to it to make sure there are no mistakes.
Step 3
Google voice will continue to get better and recognize more words. This will help prevent mistakes.
Step 4
It will also let you search your SMS/text messages. It will store a backup/history of all of your text messages. Through the interface, there will be an option on the main page to search your SMS history.
Step 5
It also allows you to use the new feature ListenIn. This allows you to listen to a voicemail being left on your phone so you can decide whether or not to answer it. To use this, simply press 3 when someone calls you as long as your phone is set up to work with google voice.
Step 6
Through the google voice page, you can forward all of your phone calls to a different phones or to one phone. For instance, you can forward your home phone number so that it will ring on your cell phone. When you log into google voice, click the Phones tab and then settings to change these options.
Hope it helsp you. For more information itshardtosayidowhenidont at gmail.com? and if you have anymore questions after you look at the website you can ask me. thanks!

(1) Google Voice is an answer for one phone number for life!! That means you can switch mobile phone carriers without fear of having to port it over or tell your contacts about your new number.

(2) Many mobile phone carriers allow for a add-on service so you can call unlimited to 2 or 3 numbers without it going against your minutes. You can setup Google Voice number for your friends and family and make all outgoing calls to the Google Voice # so that all your calls will basically unmetered.

If the answer was yep, perhaps agreeing with another persons’

How can yep violate terms? Don’t you loose points from violating?
That is so stupid that that was deleted.

How long should I stay in Liverpool, England to fully enjoy the Beatles attractions and everything?

Filed under: Uncategorized — oscarspence1981 at 10:46 am on Monday, October 26, 2009

I’m planning one week trip to England. My plan is to stay in London for 2 nights and plan some shopping then 3 nights in Liverpool then come back to London and wrap up the shopping. Do you know if 3 days are enough time in Liverpool or perhaps too much?

There’s so much more to do in Liverpool than just the Beatles so 3 days will be fine. (The shopping is a lot cheaper than London too)

There’s the waterfront, Cathedrals, Museums and galleries (more than any UK city outside London) Theatres, Football (sorry, soccer)
comedy, restaurants, pubs, nightlife.
Have a mooch around on here:

What time can you drive until with a Junior License in New York?

Filed under: Uncategorized — oscarspence1981 at 3:58 am on Monday, October 26, 2009

Im hearing all different times- 9 pm, 10 pm, 8 pm…. With a Junior license in New York, what time can you drive until? Please also state your source and a link to where I can find it from a reputable source such as the DMV, etc. Thanks

The answer depends on where in the State of New York you are. Here are the general restrictions:
(vi) Class DJ. Such license shall be valid to operate only vehicles which may be operated with a class D license by a person under eighteen years of age, except it shall not be valid to operate a motor vehicle with an unladen weight or a GVWR of more than ten thousand pounds or any motor vehicle towing another vehicle with an unladen weight or GVWR of more than three thousand pounds. Such license shall automatically become a class D license when the holder becomes eighteen years of age.

I need lyrics for the song special olympics by stephen lynch?

Filed under: Uncategorized — oscarspence1981 at 12:54 am on Sunday, October 25, 2009

Title of the song: Special Olympics
Artist/Band : Stephen Lynch

Watch them run
Watch them fall
Watch them try to catch a ball-
Olympics

Special Olympics

Watch them laugh
Watch them drool
Watch them fall into the pool
That’s diving

At the Special Olympics

And I know full well
That I will burn in Hell
(Gradually Spoken faster as line progresses)
But those guys playing wheelchair basketball got to be about the funniest freaking thing I’ve ever seen in my life!

At the Special Olympics

Kid with DOWNS
Wins the race
Even though he stood in place-
Olympics

Special Olympics

‘Round his neck
Gold medals hung
Resting on his giant tongue-
Olympics

Special Olympics

But I kid when I sing
‘Cause these games are a beautiful thing
(Gradually spoken faster)
Okay I’m really just avoiding Karma because my kids are probably going to be born crippled and blind and be some retard that I’ll have to spend with all my time

At the Special Olympics
