Auntie Mame – DivX Version (Normal Quality), iPod/iPhone Version
|
IMDB rating: 7.80 Plot: Always armed with a colorful dress and an acerbic quip, the flamboyant, vibrant socialite Mame Dennis is the quintessential roaring 20’s flapper, with a huge desire to live life to enjoy it and also just for the hell of it. Into this world comes her young orphaned nephew Patrick Dennis, whom she is appointed the guardian of. Immediately the two fall in love with each other, and she spends the rest of the movie, which takes us through the Great Depression and beyond, trying to rescue him from the stuffy, conventionalist people he’s used to. There are a couple of bumps along the way, but there are plenty of fun adventures that prove that Mame is one hell of a woman. |

Is there such thing as gay camp in Israeli culture?
A friend of mine (who is fluent in Hebrew) and I haven’t had much luck finding this answer. By gay camp, I refer to pop culture that the gay community has rather adopted. Camp classics are films that aren’t about gays but have a gay sensibility or gay double meaning. ie: Auntie Mame, The Women, Whatever happened to Baby Jane, Mommy Dearest. Camp expressions are simple as referring to a "he’ as a ’she’ or referring to man’s shirt as a blouse, etc.
There are actually books written on the history of gay camp.
Now, does this exist in the language of Hebrew and Israeli culture?
Please, no guessing or one word answers. I’d appreciate some references or examples.
I’m not gay, so I don’t know too much details, but of course there is a gay scene here in Israel as well that has it’s own cultural tendencies. Like I’ve known some gay guys who would speak to each other in the female form (in Hebrew names of verbs and objects can change depending on their gender), and there are many gay clubs and bars with different themes, like I know there are a lot of gay people here that are into the whole Eurovision song competition and it’s songs of the present and past, which is very camp…
I think you’d have to find an Israeli gay person who’s deep in the scene, especially in Tel Aviv, to get the best answer.

Since many Israelis were born and raised in NYC , you know there are camp routines in bar culture there . But the gay scene is cramped in many ways by a macho , heavily armed atmosphere .
