AS studing of Religious history is a hobby of mine and i keep reading those ignorant statements ?
Ignorant statements made by those who know nothing of History other than what some fundie web site or preacher told them that Constantine started the Catholic Church. So my question is show me tell me when Constantine started the Catholic Church or any Church as far as that goes. He did have a large influence in the Orthodox Churches and they even i believe have him as a Saint but no such credit is he given by the Catholic Church. Now here is a paragraph copied from ST.Ignatius a disciple of ST.John the Apostle writen to the Smyrnaeans in 107 AD only 11 yrs after Revelation was written….Chapter 8. Let nothing be done without the bishop
See that you all follow the bishop, even as Jesus Christ does the Father, and the presbytery as you would the apostles; and reverence the deacons, as being the institution of God. Let no man do anything connected with the Church without the bishop. Let that be deemed a proper Eucharist, which is [administered] either by the bishop, or by one to whom he has entrusted it. Wherever the bishop shall appear, there let the multitude [of the people] also be; even as, wherever Jesus Christ is, there is the Catholic Church. It is not lawful without the bishop either to baptize or to celebrate a love-feast; but whatsoever he shall approve of, that is also pleasing to God, so that everything that is done may be secure and valid.
Krycant Constantine died long before the coucil gathered to decide the books of the Bible.
FireBall as usual you forgot your meds.
Dr.Bob i believe your honest and gave a honest answer but your wrong about the disciple of a Apostle not counting just re-read Jesus words to the Apostles in Johns Gospel chapter 20:21 where Christ authorizes the Apostles to act now as he had been sent.
And one last comment since Constantine did eventually accept Christianity and allowed Christians the freedom to Worship how is that forming or creating a Church.I mean use your brain’s…

Constantine made Christianity the official religion of the Roman Empire, which was the beginning of the Catholic church as an organization. He also presided over the council that decided which books would be included in the Bible, and which would not be, setting the basis for modern Xtianity.

Asking for God’s holy spirit to be with you and praying in the name of the son has the same effect and takes the place of the Bishop, if you so happen not to be Catholic. If these words were written in the original transcripts as law, then I for one would have heeded it.

As a "fundie," I am aware of church history and know that Constantine had nothing to do with the formation of the early church. He came along at about 320 A.D., well after the church was established.
But I think that as an apologist for the Catholic church, you err in giving equal weight to the writings of a follower of a Disciple. The Catholic church (and the early Christian church) were clear in their understanding that the writings of those who were called directly by Christ were acceptable scripture, and other writings — though they may be influential or important — were not to be seen as scripture.
Christ taught nothing about relying only on a bishop as he did the Father. John wrote nothing of following a bishop as Christ did the Father. The Apostle Paul, who clearly wrote more than anyone else about the organization of the early church, never made any such suggestion, either.

First off, I am sincerely interested in your question but I want you to knopw that even though I am posting an answer that goes against your beliefs, I am NOT trying to promote my own agenda in an attempt to win you over to my mode of thinking. I respect the religious beliefs of others.
With that said, here is the history that I have uncovered. please do not be angry with me. I harbor no prejudice towards any religion.
Dark Age Church History
During the Dark Ages, Christians believing in Christ were persecuted for their beliefs by the Romans. Christianity was being stomped out of existence by Paganism. In 321AD the Roman Emperor Constantine was "converted" and decided that he wanted to convert Rome as well… So he marched 1000 Pagan soldiers through a river and "baptized" them into Christianity. After this he went around naming everything Christian names, and even gave all his soldiers Christian names too. Effectually though he did not bapitze his soldiers, but only made them "wet Pagans". Now Christianity suddenly went from being the minority to being the majority, literally over night. Even the Statue of "Peter" was there before Peter was born. This statue was one among many things renamed by Constantine in an attempt at government reform. Formerly it was the god of Jupiter (or Pluto) Constantine was not said to have a "full" conversion until on his death bed. Pagan/Christians now had the majority and forced Pagan beliefs on the few Christians who were left. These faithful Christians were deemed "heretics" by the Church and sentenced to death at the Church’s convenience.
Those were the Dark Ages. Constantine was the Roman Emperor who became CHRISTIAN, and then decided that EVERYONE was going to be Christian too… so it went from pagans murdering Christians, to pagans becoming Christians, to Pagans who say they are Christians murdering Christians… this is how the popularity of Catholicism was born….
By FORCE… back then there was one church… the Roman church or NO church… this allowed for many doctrines that are simply not taught to enter into our churches… the reformation expunged some of this, but there are still some minor(and some major) discrepancies regarding the doctrines taught by the Bible.. This all stemmed from the force of Religion/Government rules by the Catholics who got their power in 538AD
In 538AD emperor Justinian left for Constantinople and gave the western part of his empire to the ARCH BISHOP OF ROME… the arch bishop then proceeded to use his power to enforce government mandates regarding the free practice of religion… and thus the world was truly plunged into the DARK AGES.
This ended when General Berthier of FRANCE in 1798AD marched on ROME and took the arch bishop of his throne where he dies in captivity. This opens the way for the reformation to blossom. This also gives full allowance during the exodus for Christian believers to escaping persecution and fleeing to the New World (America)

Wiki even says that Constantine made himself preside over the Council in Rome.

ALL I SEE IS:
JOHN 10: 16.
THAT [ONE] SHEPHERD; IS NOT THE BISHOP.
THAT THIEF DOES NOT COME THROUGH THE [DOOR]; HE COMES [UP] ANOTHER WAY.
THROUGH FALSE DOCTRINE: MAN-MADE.
THE MESSAIAH IS THE SHEPHERD OF THE SHEEP.
SHEEP ARE TO HEAR THE MESSIAH’S VOICE.

your question is asking for proof… there is not proof because in or around 320AD the church was already established….. so no….. but this follow the bishop is not of the Holy Bible… so it is not the Word of God… okay!!

You are so lame you answered your own question and you don’t see your self in denial. It is evident then that you are indeed a Catholic, and are trying to justify its founding name Romish Catholic Church, and see who se influence as Emporer as to patronize his ego and usurp all the gusto of preeminence they can frame under that influence.
When Paul wrote his letter to Rome, it wasn’t to the now known Catholic Church, but it was there opportunity to usurp somemore sweet bread. LOOK, BEHOLD YOU CANNOT SERVE TWO TABLES.
In the name of Jesus Christ i tell you the truth, He has much against you, and there is no anointing for lips service.
You didn’t bargain for that bit of truth didn’t you.
when you realized how the Catholic Church has gotten this far, you will not see the Holy Spirit’s wind beneath her wings, but you will see the governments wind and strength ( through Catholic politicians) under the wealth of the Vatican.
Why don’t we talk about the Jesuit order of the priesthood, of the Catholic church, and see her dealings in the world and wealth machine they facilitate and launder ?
the Israel of God | Nov 19, 2009
You’re so right.
We keep on getting the same old rubbish, lies and distortions of history.
But the only way these recently formed sects/cults etc. can justify their existence, is to deny that there is a much older, original, Church of the Apostles founded by Jesus Himself.
Once they admit this they they would have to submit to the authority of this one true Church (which Jesus promised the gates of Hell would not prevail against), and this would mean their certain demise. So lies and distortions are essential for them to continue to exist.
Telling lies is obviously the price they have to pay for refusal to submit to the authority of the Church, and it appears they have little conscience in this regard. Maybe the survival of their sect justifies it in their minds.
To be charitable maybe some are just ignorant of the true history, but if so, they must be wilfully ignorant because the truth and evidence are easily available and are certainly often repeated on this forum. The historical evidence you give in your question is one good example, as is the undeniable fact that the Bible they claim to follow is the book the Catholic Church (that they dispise) put together.
If they trust the book of the Catholic Church (the Bible) how come they have the audacity to use that very same book to dispute the teaching of the Church? It is an illogical position and can only be inspired by the Father of Lies.
A.M.D.G | Nov 19, 2009
Your history is correct. The Catholic church was organized by Jesus under the leadership of the apostle Peter (Matt 16:18-19). It was clearly a reality by Pentecost after the Resurrection, and it has had a continual history as an actual organization (not just an abstract idea) ever since.

Constantine was a Roman emperor who legalized Christianity (calling off the lions) and helped the original Catholic-Orthodox Church by printing Bibles and sponsoring Church councils. He certainly did not found the Catholic Church, which predates him by about 300 years.
