Can i reveal these feelings for my shrink to her…please help?
I’m a 31 yr old female. I was born into horrendous dysfunction, suffered abuse and neglect as a child. At 18 i contacted a therapist. I developed psychological problems as a result but sought help myself from a wonderful therapist . I scrimped and saved and paid to attend myself. I developed a great rapport with her. In fact i experienced ‘transference’ whereby i used to wish she was my mom. I saw her on and off through the years, i built a life for myself and could go 4 years without seeing her. Basically i’d see her now and again over the past 13yrs. I’m back again, and last time it was 4yrs since i saw her. I’ve tried other therapists but i could never feel these feelings, never. She constantly tells me how impressed she is that i came to her so young, and that i knew i needed help and that i always stick in her mind.
To me shes fantastic and i owe all my development to date to the work we done together. I felt accepted for the first time and normal for the first time. She helped me to believe in myself. She has told me that i’m very special. My moms a raging mentally abusive alcoholic now in care at 64, i brought her up basically. I have ok a relationship with mum now, its ok, i take it for what it is and we can spend some ok times together but she can never be a mother to me.
Again i feel those feelings of longing to be ‘close to my therapist” (not sexually, maternally) returning. I feel good after spending time wtih her. But yet i’m sad coz i know this is a therapist client relationship and never will be anything more coz thats the nature of this relationship. I suppose its me looking for a mother figure i never had. The sessions we’ve worked in have very fond memories for me, i used to leave feeling good and accepted for the first time ever. Last night i had a really tender dream. I dreamed that we were both lying in bed and i was enjoying the feel of her skin and hair (again not sexual, please understand this). What are those feelings and do you think she feels anything? Do you think she feels any of this toward me? Should i reveal these feelings? Apparently they are common? Do you think she would be freaked and it would make our working relationship awkward?

yes you can tell them anything

Lonesome Dove
Lonesome Dove (1989)

IMDB rating: 9.00

Plot: Retired Texas Rangers Gus McRae and Woodrow Call are content to live out their remaining years in the tiny Texas town of Lonesome Dove. Then their old friend Jake comes to town, and tells them about the incredible oppurtunities for cattle ranching in Montana. Encouraged by this, Call convinces Gus and many other townspeople to go on a perilous cattle drive to Montana. Gus has another agenda though: his former sweetheart now lives in Nebraska, and he hopes for a second chance with her. As the drive goes on it takes on an epic scale, ultimately becoming what could well be called the central event in the lives of all involved.

what does uva uvam vivendo varia fit mean?
in the movie Lonesome Dove there is a sign that the cattlemen carry with them on their wagon on the bottom of their sign it reads "uva uvam vivendo varia fit" please translate

This is Latin, but it is incorrect Latin (which was apparently done on purpose because the charactor Gus wouldn’t have gotten it right). It is supposed to say "A grape ripens when it sees another grape". The problem is with the word vivendo, which should read videndo. This is essentially a messed-up quote from the ancient Roman satirist Juvenal.

WOW! Amazing! Thanks. : )

There is a great book I loved when little called "The Extraordinary Origin of Everyday Things" that tells you all kinds of cool facts like how Wrigley originally started out as a soap company & the gum that came with the box was so popular they switched to making it their focus, when people started holding their hands in prayer, Friday the 13th….and so.

Since you shared so many facts with us, I’ll share an interesting fact I know:

In 1898, fourteen years before the Titanic sunk, a novella written by Morgan Robertson an ocean liner which sinks in the North Atlantic after striking an iceberg was published. There were many eerie similarities between the fictional ocean liner and the Titanic. The eeriest one being that the fictional was named the Titan, and the title of the novella is "The Wreck of the Titan."

What kind of hormone imbalance do I have? If I have one… Help? It seems like depression?
Im missing two things- excitement and butterflies. I dont get excited about stuff anymore, like new things and stuff like that. And I dont feel butterflies when I do something that includes adrenalin. Like last week I was on a holiday and I was on a car ride which was very bumpy and jumping over small hills and tipping from side to side all crazy and I felt NO butterfliues or emptiness in my stomach. I love that feeling, it brings back good memories with good associations, and it wasnt there. And I dont really feel excited about things that are meant to happen, and I want to. I want to feel all bubbling again. We did some pretty cool things on that holiday. And I convinced myself they were cool because I knew the different me, the happier me would have enjoyed them, but the joy of these things was not experienced. Only 20% of the joy was felt. The rest was missing.
Maybe I have depression. I have felt like Im inside a dream world for some time now, about 2 years. Like nothing was real and it was all in a foggy mess. Maybe this is the next stage. I also dont give a rats a.s.s about anything. I landed a great job and Im only 18, and I dont care. I just dont feel like it was an achievement when logic argues that it WAS. I only feel dissapointment over bad things that happen. I also dont enjoy new things. I love trying new, scary things but it feels like when the feeling is meant to flood through me, its like its diluted or like the drain is clogged.
What kind of imbalance is this?
I dont want to take medication, it is likely to make me gain weight. I do not want that. Aside from that, can someone explain imbalances in hormones to me and what might be up with me?
no meds dont make me gain weight but i know that anti depressants have side effects like that. i would rather eat less of this and more of that then take a pill anyway. im VERY distrusting of any pills like them.

go and see your gp they are the only suitable people to help, we are just guessing and that is very dangerous

It may be depression. Many people lack the right amount of serotonin and/or norepinephrine, which are brain chemicals that deal with emotion.
You mentioned that medication makes you gain weight. Everyone is different, and not everyone gains weight. being depressed is far worse than losing a few pounds anyway, IMHO.
The job is definitely important, and although it may not feel very exciting or an ‘accomplishment’–it is and you should be proud! save your money–as you’ll need it for a car, apartment, etc.
being jobless is far worse. Focusing on disappointments can only make you feel worse and deepen the depression.
We all need help from time to time–and seekimng help is not a sign of weakness–it is a sign of being responsible and taking care of yourself!
Good luck!
Ooops–as far as hormonal imbalance–there are lots of hormones in the body which affect various things. I mentioned the 2 brain chemicals that affect mood and emotion.
Thyroid imbalance can cause changes too–being hyper or sluggish; being tired and lethargic, etc–but this doesn’t sound like what you are dealing with.
Yours seems to be more emotional than physical.
Of course there are the hormones dealing with your cycle, etc (estrogen, progesterone, trestosterone, etc)–but, again that would be more physical.
i think you are having depression and may need a low dose of medication to help.
